
what is rosacea
This is a condition that causes redness and often small, red, pus-filled bumps on the face.
Rosacea most commonly affects middle-aged women with fair skin. It can be mistaken for acne or other skin conditions.
Rosacea symptoms
facial redness with swollen red bumps and small visible blood vessels.
Other symptoms include:
- sensitive skin – burning, itching, stinging and pain.
- dry, rough skin.
- raised red patches (plaques) on your skin.
- facial swelling (lymphedema)
Although anyone can get rosacea, it is more common among these groups:
- Middle-aged and older adults.
- Women, but when men get it, it tends to be more severe.
- People with fair skin, but it may be underdiagnosed in darker skinned people because dark skin can mask facial redness
Anti-acne medication or antibiotics such as metronidazole cream, gel, lotion ,can control and reduce symptoms. Oral antibiotics used include minocycline, doxycycline, erythromycin, clarithromycin and clindamycin. if Left untreated, rosacea tends to worsen over time.
Rosacea triggers
Sunlight and hairspray are common rosacea triggers. Other common triggers include heat, stress, alcohol, and spicy foods. This triggers differ from person to person.
